The joy in the work of Houston Boychoir's Preparatory Choir, for me, is helping boys find their voices and taking pride in the beauty we've created. Watching boys become men and make life-long friends in this organization is beautiful to witness.

 

My Story

Vasti Cantú Adkins is a musician, music educator, early childhood specialist, choir director, and bilingual worship leader working in churches, schools, and arts organizations in the greater Houston area. She is a native Houstonian and enjoys giving back to the city that raised her. Through the study of music, she inspires students to love themselves and others and express themselves authentically. Mrs. Adkins holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Houston Baptist University and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Music Business from Southern New Hampshire University and Berklee College of Music. She is also a graduate of the prestigious Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, (HSPVA). Currently, she teaches group piano studies and early childhood music classes at St. Andrew’s School of Fine Arts (SOFA), serves as the Early Childhood Music specialist and 5th Grade Music Specialist at Presbyterian School Houston; and directs the Houston Boychoir Preparatory Choir. On any given Sunday you can find her around the city leading church congregants in worship of varying Christian denominations in English and Spanish services. From 2013-2016 she taught in the public schools in HISD as Assistant Choir Director Johnston Middle School for the Performing and Visual Arts and as the Music Specialist and Choir Director at Harvard Elementary School.
