Houston Boychoir is a place where boys create lifelong friendships and a sense of community. Auditions are held throughout the year for all boys ages 8 to 18, who demonstrate willingness to learn, vocal talent, and musical aptitude.
Our musical repertoire is varied and draws on literature from all styles, languages, and periods of music history. Through the mastery and public performance of their music, boys develop discipline, confidence, and a loving understanding of art.
About Us
Established in 1962, Houston Boychoir began as The Singing Boys of Houston through a partnershiop with Houston Independent School District . In 1991, Houston Boychoir became an independent non-profit arts organization. Today, HBC partners with schools across the city to enrich boys’ musical and academic development.
Through a curriculum grounded in state and national standards, choristers are encouraged to pursue excellence both in rehearsal and in class. Along the way, they develop strong vocal technique, music literacy, and a deeper understanding of music theory and history, while exploring and performing in a variety of languages and cultures.
With over 60 years of experience, Houston Boychoir has earned its place in the fine arts community. Collaborative partners have included Houston Symphony Orchestra, Opera in the Heights, Moores’ School of Music, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Houston Bach Society, Hope Stone Dance and more.
As one of the country’s premiere boychoirs, HBC serves as ambassadors, representing our city, state and nation during annual concert tours across North & South America and throughout Africa, Europe and Asia. Every year, our choirs charm over 70,000 audience members with repertoire that represents every angle of music history throughout the world.
Dedicated to the community, Houston Boychoir teaches service and giving through projects such as: the Illumination Project, the Pink Ribbons Project, the Fire Fighter’s Foundation, as well as the creation of a larger collaborative project with Texas Children’s Hospital in a work called Ode to My Nurses.
Houston Boychoir provides a unique, positive, inspirational and lasting experience that contributes to each boy’s potential as a whole, building character, developing life skills, and nurturing a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
