HBC in the Schools

We bring the music to you.

Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them – a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.

HBC in the Schools provides access to rich musical experiences and opens students' minds to recognize their own potential of artistic expression. HBC in the Schools offers low-cost, customized music education programming to schools throughout the Greater Houston area. We provide quality arts education for students and support schools and community organizations where fine arts programming may have been eliminated or may just be getting started.

General Music Instruction
(1-8 weeks - PreK and Elementary Grades)

In these TEKS-aligned lessons, students will build a repertoire of songs, a set of tools to hone their musical skills, and a wealth of knowledge to engage with music around them for a lifetime of music making. Students enjoy increased confidence, a natural outcome of harmonious collaboration, and increased sensitivity to beauty as they learn to sing tunefully and beautifully.

Songwriting Workshop
(4-12 weeks - Middle School and High School Grades)

HBC teaching artists will engage students in the creation of their own musical works. Students will learn about music notation and text setting while learning how to express their individuality through song. Teachers will encourage the use of modern idioms, such as hip hop and pop styles.

Performance in your school

HBC ensembles will come to campus to perform an engaging program for students. HBC directors will engage students through the cultural and historical context of music by teaching critical listening and thinking skills. Students will deepen their understanding and appreciation of music, becoming active participants in the presentation. Through these performances, students can take these critical skills outside of school to become thoughtful audience members.

Staff Development
(1 day - 1 week)

HBC in the Schools staff will come to your campus and work side by side with your teachers to demonstrate, assist, and collaborate to achieve improved outcomes in student learning.
